Between The Letters - New punctuation system
A new punctuation system that expands the possibilities of expression in written language.
By adding unique marks, the system allows for the conveyance of emotional, tonal, and rhythmic nuances, similar to spoken language. Thus, writing and reading become more precise and complex, bringing the richness of spoken expression closer to the written word.
At the heart of the project is the research book, documenting all the experiments conducted while exploring the possibilities for creating new punctuation marks. In this process,
I deconstructed and reconstructed existing marks, creating 900 different symbols, from which I filtered and selected the final 30. The book also includes additional research where I examined how to borrow marks from biblical cantillation, musical notation, and diacritical marks from various languages to enrich the new system.

Bachelor's Degree Final Project, Shenkar College.
This animated introduction presents the new marks and their connection to vocal expressions, adapting the marks to different situations. Additionally, a new sans-serif font, specifically designed for use in WhatsApp, is showcased as an important foundation for the research process.
I have divided the new symbols into three families: Independent, Upgraded, and Borrowed.
Independent: New symbols that are not associated with existing ones. Upgraded: Existing symbols that have been newly developed, with the original symbol’s base still recognizable. Borrowed: Symbols that are based on principles from biblical cantillation marks, music notation, and diacritical marks. Another key focus of the project was ensuring that the symbols can be written by hand as well as digitally, recognizing the importance of preserving the tradition of handwritten script in an increasingly technological world.
